Titan Ford FPV Drive N’ Show Day
November 27th
Titan Ford’s annual Falcon/FPV Drive ‘n Show Day was held last Sunday.
After a week of torrential rain we were all very relieved to wake up on Sunday morning to crystal clear blue skies and lots of Summer sunshine.
Our 30 car convoy started their engines at exactly 9.30am and a deep, rumbling throaty roar smashed the early Sunday morning silence.
As in previous years the Northern Beaches Highway Patrol provided us with a full police escort with their XR6 Turbo Falcons positioned at the front and rear of our group of classic and modern day performance vehicles.
This year we again enjoyed the support of the members from the XW XY Falcon Association, the Northern Beaches Hot Rod Club and the NSW Cobra Club.
The drive route wound its way through Manly, then up to Seaforth for an easy cruise along the Wakehurst Parkway.
Traffic was heavy through Belrose and Terrey Hills with at least one of our XY GT’s letting off a bit of steam with a short cranking burn out as he nudged in behind the lead patrol car at the traffic lights at Mona Vale Road.
Everyone survived the challenging twisting turns of the McCarrs Creek Road descent finally stopping at Kuringai Waterfront Reserve for warm donuts, cappuccino’s and a chat.
This year, our special guest V8 Super driver was Will Davison. Will was welcomed back to the fold by FPR in January to drive the #6 Trading Post Racing Falcon.
On this occasion however he chose to drive Mike’s superbly conditioned 1970 XY Falcon GT! The smile on Will’s face suggested that it was a welcome break from the brutal power of his Super V8 race car.
After an hour’s break we all headed up to Palm Beach and back down through the Northern beaches to Titan Ford to enjoy what has now become the traditional FPV lunch.
Carved chunks of Pork that has been roasted on a spit for 5 hours, on a fresh, crusty bread roll with mustard, some crackling, a choice of salads and absolutely dripping with hot gravy.
Will, who is one of the most obliging, personable guys you could meet on the circuit, happily mingled and chatted with both participants and local enthusiasts, signing autographs, posing for photos and drawing the winning tickets for the raffle prizes.
His knowledge and genuine interest in the classic vehicles that were on display was much appreciated by Dealer Principal Andrew Butcher and Eastern Regional Manager Dave Mutton when judging the winners of the 2011 show ‘n’ shine.
Whilst there were some magnificent vehicles that received a notable mention,
there could only be 3 trophy winners. The top three vehicles were absolute beauties.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended the raffle was one of our most successful ever. We were able to raise a considerable donation for Bear Cottage, a hospice for terminally ill children that is located at Manly overlooking the beach.
We would also like to thank Louise Iozzi from FPR and Dave Mutton (FPV) for their contribution and support as always.
And finally, the Titan Ford team, all of our car club members and our customers would like to wish Will the best of luck for this weekend’s Telstra 500!
