5 Stars for FG Falcon

For the first time in history an Australian-built car has been bestowed with a 5 star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

The FG Falcon sedan was awarded the highest score ever recorded for a locally produced car, by the ANCAP judges. This puts the Falcon at the forefront of vehicle safety, setting the standard for cars produced in both Australia and Europe.

"The petrol FG Falcon sedan range has been judged by ANCAP as being the safety leader amongst locally-manufactured vehicles, cementing Ford's long standing reputation for safety leadership in Australia," Ford Australia President Bill Osborne said.

"We design our cars to deliver real-world safety benefits for our customers. This result is a resounding third party endorsement of the extensive safety development program undertaken for the all-new FG Falcon.

"Not only is the FG Falcon the safest vehicle ever produced in this country, it is also competitive with the safest sedans in the world.

"These safety test results add further validation to the extensive crash simulation process and physical crash test program conducted by Ford Australia for
the FG Falcon, which was the most comprehensive in the company's history."

Based on the latest ANCAP results, Ford is proud to now say that the all-new FG Falcon is, unquestionably, the safest vehicle EVER developed by Ford in Australia. It combines an exhaustive list of both active and passive safety features, developed using state-of-the-art crash technology and a comprehensive physical test program. Safety features include;

• Head protecting side airbags standard on all models. Curtain and side thorax airbags are standard on G6E and G6E Turbo and front seat

• Dual stage driver airbag and front passenger airbag as standard;

• The first Australian introduction of a front passenger Beltminder™, along with a driver Beltminder™, which reminds both front seat occupants to fasten

• Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with Traction Control (calibrated for individual models) on all petrol sedans, to aid in avoiding crash situations;

• A passenger safety cell that incorporates high strength steels, including ultra high strength Boron, to provide extra rigidity, along with new load paths
  

• An intelligent world-class crash sensing system with door pressure sensors and dual upfront sensors, which instantly and accurately determine the severity of the crash event and activate relevant safety features accordingly;

• ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), to provide reliable brake performance under all conditions;

• Specially developed tyres for each model that provide improved grip and handling;

• A reverse camera (standard on G6E and G6E Turbo and optional on other vehicles in the range)

• Driver fatigue warning and;

• A reverse sensing system (standard on G Series, optional on other models)
